Chivas Regal

We were commissioned by SomeOne to create an interactive microsite for all Chivas employees to access a wealth of brand assets and guidelines.
We see 1920’s Manhattan brought to life, the true birth place of Chivas Regal 25: a 3D animated cityscape beautifully blends the mood of a Hugh Ferriss drawing with the buzz and energy of the modern city. The user seamlessly navigates around the city selecting bespoke content within 8 hotspots placed in key iconic locations.

Design

Working closely with the Brand Guidelines developed by SomeOne, we created the world to be completely complementary, inspired by the drawings of Hugh Ferriss. The microsite called for 8 destinations each of which was sketched to resemble an area addressed in the Brand Guidelines : An Airport for Duty Free, Cinema for film, Gallery and Hotel for VIP events and hospitality, a store for merchandise etc, all of which were sketched by Alex Maclean below.

Navigation

Originally conceived as a real time walk through, Rupert Ray refined the concept to a ‘guided tour’, knowing from experience that freedom of 3d movement can be as frustrating as it is liberating if you don’t know where you are going (or why!). So the city became a microcosm of 1920′s Manhattan, big enough to reflect the experience of the real place but small enough to navigate. The user journey was simplified to become a 360 degree tour with 8 stops all of which could be accessed directly. through a map

Animation

Each short hop along the journey was designed to open up the experience of Manhattan and bring it to life. We decided to ‘populate’ the city with long exposure lights and fleeting impressions of people represented by the iconic Chivas diamond. This concept and Alex’s sketches were beautifully brought to life by the super talented Mr Kaplin who currently share the studio at Rupert Ray HQ.
